The API: backup health your stack can call
The Rewind Public API makes backup status machine-readable. Your monitoring dashboard can pull it. Your deployment pipeline can check it. Your runbooks can act on it.
Four things it covers:
Know your coverage. Pull account status, health snapshots, and backup history across every connected account. A single call returns the last backup date, outcome, and restore state for your whole org.
Take action from your own tools. Trigger a backup before any risky change via the MCP, or initiate account-level restores from your own scripts and runbooks via the API, without logging into Rewind.
Prove protection on demand. Pull org-level audit events into your SIEM or compliance stack, filterable by event type and actor. When your CISO asks if last night’s changes were covered, you have the answer in seconds.
Investigate beyond the live system. For Jira and Confluence on Advanced or Enterprise plans, retrieve backed-up content including versions the live system no longer holds.
If your team builds internal tooling, you now have a backup layer your infrastructure can talk to.
The MCP: backup questions in plain English
The Rewind MCP server connects to any MCP-compatible AI client. After a quick setup at docs.developer.rewind.com/mcp, your team can ask about backup coverage from inside the AI tools they are already in:
“Which of my accounts hasn’t had a successful backup in the last 48 hours?”
“Confirm last night’s backup completed before I run this bulk update.”
“Trigger a backup for this project. I’m about to make a major change.”
The answer comes back in the tool you were already working in. The MCP is read-only with one exception: triggering an on-demand backup.
Backup confidence as a workflow step
The Intelligence Engine is not a replacement for the Rewind dashboard. The dashboard remains your authoritative view. What the Intelligence Engine does is bring backup confidence into the moments when you need it most: right before something risky runs, mid-incident when you need answers fast, and during compliance reviews when someone asks for evidence now.
For teams running at AI speed, that is a key difference. The pre-flight check that used to require a context switch is one question away. The backup verification that used to happen after the fact is now a pipeline step. The compliance report that used to take a day to pull together is a prompt.
